Make-A-Wish Team
The Make-A-Wish Foundation® Kansas City Program Center needs the community’s help. We are a non-profit organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses in Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas. In doing so, we strive to enrich each child’s experience with hope, strength and joy. Past wishes include cruises, meeting Garth Brooks and Elton John, scuba diving in Florida, a home computer and a back-to-school shopping spree.
Volunteers are needed in all aspects of the organization:
- Wish Granting (see below)
- Fundraising (forming a group that hosts an event or drive with proceeds donated to Make-A Wish ; ex. Penny drives, $5 to wear jeans day, garage sales, bake sales, spirit days . . . )
- Committee Members (offering time once or twice a month to meet with a group working on fundraising, internal events, etc.)
- Office Work (copying, putting together packets and mailings, filing)
- Internal or External events (offering time once or twice a month to work at a fundraising event to spread the word about Make-A-Wish)
- Speaking (attending a Speaker’s Bureau training and speaking to groups about Make-A-Wish)
*All volunteers must attend a 1 hour volunteer orientation (weeknights or weekends) and wish granters must attend an additional 2-3 hour wish granter training (weekends)*
We can find the right fit for you! We have a lot of fun, rewarding
events throughout the year!
What is involved in Wish Granting?
*Fulfilling wishes
*Meeting with the child’s family and working with the
child to develop their own wish experience
*Acting as a liaison to the Foundation staff during the
Wish process
Make-A-Wish is not asking for money, we simply need your time and energy. This is a rewarding opportunity to form relationships with people in your area and make a difference in a child’s life.
